This is a series of graphs summarising trends in immunisation coverage based on data provided by the Minstry of Health.

They show what proportion of New Zealand children, reported as a percent, are fully immunised at 6 months, 8 months, 2 years and 5 years. There are also separate graphs showing proportions of children immunised for different ethnicities and different levels of deprivation.

This quarter’s immunisation coverage data shows a pleasing reversal of the declining trend. With increases for most groups, by age, by ethnicity and by deprivation, compared to December 2018 – in the absence of any other information or more detailed analysis I’m going the put this down as the “Measles” effect which is a combination of an increase in health seeking behavior motivated by the outbreak and an increased focus on vaccination in mainstream and social media as a result of the outbreak.

Disparity by ethnicity and deprivation is still an overriding concern. With the disparity by ethnicity persisting through to 5 years of age. Fortunately, the disparity by deprivation has narrowed for most children who have reached school age.
